during my time online, i’ve met many people who have a self-harm problem.

i learned quite quickly that the least productive way to help them is to provide them with a self-help hotline, or to try to play “armchair psychologist”. i also learned that begging them to stop is not only unhelpful, but can even be counterproductive. so after a lot of careful consideration, i feel like i’ve come up with the best possible way to help people who have a self-harm problem: write a 40-page guide, with each page having a whole bunch of different quick, easy, and stupid things to do that don’t involve harming yourself. each page has a theme: things that are similar to the original “feeling” but which don’t involve actual bodily harm, things that can be done with a computer, things that may be morally reprehensible in some way, etc., etc....

welp. anyway. here it is. the prelude the list of things to do instead of harming yourself.

if you’re someone who hurts themself and you’re hoping to find a solution on this webpage, i hope my ideas can help you somehow. all i’ve ever wanted in life is to help people, and i feel like this might be a good way to do it.

now please, remember this simple, irrefutably correct fact:

you are known.
you are cared for.
you are loved.
